How we celebrated the 2017 Safer Internet Day ! !! !!!

On the 7th of February 2017, the Nigeria Integrity Film Awards (Homevida) & National Film & Video Censors Board (NFVCB) with support from Google celebrated the 2017 Safer Internet Day (SID). The event held at the VirginRose Resort in Victoria Island Lagos, and about 150 students from various school across Lagos were in attendance.

Policy and Government Relations Manager, Google, Mrs Titi Akinsanmi-Bolarinwa spoke to the students about the valuable use of the internet and tips on how to be safe online. She also spoke about the web rangers project which was launched last year in Nigeria and encouraged other students to join in the experience. The webrangers project is a program aimed to train young people to become online safety ambassadors.

The day was packed full with various fun activities which includes quiz, debates, drama, making a vlog and the Pop the Hate Balloon Challenge. At the end of the fun activities, they were quizzed on what they learnt and prizes were presented to the participants.

Safer Internet Day 2017 is here! !! !!!

Homevida in partnership with the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) with support from Google is proud to present the Safer Internet Day (SID) 2017.

SID is a globally held event celebrated across the world on the second day of the second week of the second month of each year to promote safer and more responsible use of the internet especially among children and young people.

Birthed in Europe, Safer Internet Day has grown rapidly spreading to over hundred countries across the world involving thousands of people promoting the safe use of the internet.

This will be the 3rd consecutive year Homevida will be celebrating the Safer Internet Day. Last year the event held in Lagos at  Queen’s College and over 1000 students were trained. The Students were given sound advice from dignitaries and keynote  speakers on how to be safe online.

The theme for this year is: BE THE CHANGE: UNITE FOR A BETTER INTERNET and the event is set to hold on Tuesday, 7th of February, 2017. This year’s event is targeted at training over 200 students from 10 different schools to ensure that the advocacy for a Safer Internet is widespread.

Owing to the increasing relevance of the internet to everyone especially the children and youth who use the internet for various activities including school work, online gaming and social networking it is indeed important that they know that a safe environment is created for internet users.

The day promises to be entertaining and packed full with various fun activities including Balloon Challenge, Quiz, Debates and lots more.

Google, Homevida, NFVCB organise maiden edition of SID in Nigeria

On the 10th of February, 2015, Homevida, Google and the National Film and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB) hosted 32 school children to commemorate the maiden edition of the Safer Internet Day (SID) in Nigeria. This day has been celebrated all over the world since 2004, and in its 12th year, Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark this special event. SID seeks to promote safer and more responsible use of online technologies including mobile Internet and the theme for this year was “Lets create a better internet together“. The event which held at the Mulliner Towers in Ikoyi, Lagos, featured workshops in which the students were enlightened on the various ways the Internet can be of benefit to them and pitfalls they should be wary of. In the past two years, Google has observed Safer Internet Day with the rest of the world and has reached out to thousands of young online users, teachers and parents.

Nollywood stars, Blossom Chukwujekwu and Sam Uche Anyamele were also in attendance
