Homevida 2019 Competitions Are Here!!!

It’s that time of the year again!!!.

With the recent issues around rape and sexual abuse in Nigeria, Homevida has decided to run a competition on the above topic with the aim to educate and raise awareness and also give an avenue for the young talents to express themselves and win cash prizes as well 🙂  

On that note, we are looking for talented and creative scriptwriters, skit and spoken word artists between the ages of 16-35 with the ability to capture your audience?

We are calling out to you guys to send in your original scripts and skits & spoken words that promote;

  • Rape and Sexual Assult- supported by Luminate and Google 

And guess what? This year, we are dishing out a whooping sum of  N250,000 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) to two winners in the short script category and the winning scripts get turned into short films!!! Also, the 1st and 2nd places in the skit and spoken word category would go home with the sum of N150,000 and N100,000 Naira respectively

WCW of the week…

Hey guys, we are back with our #WCW

So on this edition of #wcw we have a big crush on the award winning filmmaker, director, producer, mentor and actress Remmy Njoku. she made her acting debut in the 2004 Nollywood movie ‘Home Sickness’, which she featured alongside with Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha. She came to limelight after featuring in popular Nollywood blockbuster ‘Blackberry Babes’ in 2011. Between 2011 and 2013, she and her husband Mr Jason Njoku produced iROKtv, a YouTube platform that features interviews with Nigerian celebrities, as well as coverage of Afrobeats and Nollywood events. In 2015, she became Chief Content Officer at IROKO Partners. By March, she held her first world premier for her film Thy Will Be Done at the BFI IMAX London, the first ever Nollywood film premiere in IMAX.

Remmy is a strong woman  who has accomplished a lot in Nollywood both on the national scene and international scene and has paved the way for young women in Nollywood. Her story is an example that you can do anything you want to if you put your mind to it.

And that’s why she is our Woman Crush!

9th edition of the Nigeria Integrity Film Awards Homevida

Hey guys The 9th edition of the Nigeria Integrity Film Awards Homevida held on the 6th of December at the Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja. The Awards was a night filled with good music, good food, friends and partners.  

The awards had in attendance the director general of Nigerian Film Corporation, Chief of Party USAID/SACE Charles Abani, Titi Akinsanmi who is Google’s Lead Public Policy and Government Relation, Reboot’s regional director for Africa Adam Talsma, Nollywood Veteran Sam Uche Anyamele who was also the MC for the night.

As you may know, HomeVida has focused on providing incentives to young script writers and filmmakers which has birthed the production of 24 Homevida Short Films. However, this year, we expanded our scope and launched the Internet for all Campaign with support from google, to include other forms of art, such visual arts, skits and spoken words videos, which birthed the #internet4all competition, we called for entries for skits and spoken word videos which highlights the economic and socio- cultural benefits of the internet.

The winner Mr. Akwuruaha Ikenna received a cash prizes of  ₦250,000 while the 2nd and 3rd Ms. Anita Abada, and Mr. Joel Adegboye went home with ₦150,000 and ₦100,000  at the award, the winning skit was screened  at the awards see link here.

Another highlight of the event was the Homevida impact documentary which was screened for the first time.  The documentary  highlighted Homevid’s past award winners and the impact of Homevida has had on their professional lives and the Nollywood Industry see here.

Stand a chance to win big at the Homevida #Internet4All competition

Hey guys!

The long wait is finally over and the Homevida team is pleased to announce the 2018 Homevida Competition .

Over the years, we have focused on providing incentives to young script writers and film makers which has birthed the production of 24 Homevida Short Films. However, this year, we are expanding our scope to include all forms of art, starting with skits and spoken words.

We are hereby excited to announce the call for skits and spoken word videos that creatively portray the theme: The Impact of the Internet on Economic Growth and Prosperity

What are we looking for?  

We are looking for videos that highlight the use the internet to incite hate speech towards using the internet to improve the quality of our economic and socio-cultural lives. We are focused on the positive uses of the internet to raise awareness on how the internet can be an enabler for improving the quality of life from different perspectives. Participants must produce a video (not longer than 3 minutes) that creatively conveys their ideas on how the internet can be used for socio-economic growth (either through a skit, or spoken words) with the caption or hashtag #Internet4All and #HomevidaImpacts.

Entries for this competition must be original and creative so have fun with your videos and be yourself.

Winners of this competition would be walking away with  N250,000, N200,000 and N150,000…  you don’t want to miss this!!!

We are back with our MCM of the week…

Been a minute right… we missed you all too!!! 🙂

So on this edition of #MCM we have a big crush on the  award winning filmmaker, director and actor Udoka Oyeka, For those of you who watch TINSEL you may know him as the “scheming yet handsome” Tsav.

Before he landed the big role in the hit series TINSEL he had accomplished and received numerous awards both nationally and internationally.  He released his first feature “ZR-7 (The Red House Seven)” in 2011 which was nominated for Best Child Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in 2011. After this feat he went further in the film industry to produce other award winning pieces such as “Down and Out” ,  “Living Funeral”, and “No Good Turn”

Over the years Udoka has received over 10 nominations from the prestigious Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) and Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and screenings for prestigious film festivals such as; Cannes Film Festival 2014, Durban International Film Festival 2014, Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles 2014; the African Film Festival New York 2014, Zimbabwe Film Festival 2014 and the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) 2014.

Udoka is one man with who has accomplished a lot in nollywood both on the national scene and international scene.

And that’s why he is our Man Crush!

 

WIVES ON STRIKE AND SILENT TEARS TAKE HOME ONE MILLION NAIRA EACH AT THE 8TH NIGERIA INTEGRITY FILM AWARDS (HOMEVIDA) + ALL THE JUICY GIST

The 8th edition of the Nigeria Integrity Film Awards, Homevida held on the 2nd of December at the Renaissance Hotel Ikeja in Lagos.

The event which started at 6:00 pm was a night full of fun, good music and good food. The evening started with a gorgeous display of cocktails and canapes which gave guests the opportunity to network and talk with acquaintances.

Present at the awards were film makers, film enthusiasts and the Director General of Nigeria Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, United States Government representative Marie Davydecko, Chief of Party USAID/SACE Charles Abani, Lead Public Policy and Government Relations Google, Titi Akinsanmi, and Nollywood Veterans including Omoni Oboli, Sam Uche Anyamele, Emeka Okoye amongst others.

This year’s thematic area for USAID/SACE was Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance (TAGG) while Google’s was Countering Hate Speech, Radicalisation and Terrorism.

The evening featured the premiere of the 2017 Homevida short films which are “Man In the Mirror” in the Countering Hate Speech, Radicalisation and Terrorism category supported by Google and “Dilemma” in the Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance (TAGG) category endowed by USAID/SACE.

Kehinde Oluwaseun a 23 year old screen writer wrote the script Dilemma for the TAGG category and Micheal Osabor a 22 year old writer wrote the script “Man In The Mirror” for the Countering hate speech category and they were both awarded at the event with a plaque and cash price of N250,000 each.

This year’s Award show highlighted the impact Homevida has on the film industry in Nigeria, this is evident in the short film “Gana Street League” which was written, funded and produced by the 30 script writers that were shortlisted to attend our script writing workshop. These Young and talented film makers took what they learnt from the workshop and made a movie which was premiered at the awards.

For the Feature Film and Documentary Category, Wives on Strike by Omoni Oboli won the award for Best Feature Film, Wives on Strike was nominated along side Politics and Money by Micheal Nwankwo. One of the nominated documentaries pulled out leaving Silent Tears by Ishaya Bako.

The night ended with lovely classic music by Guchi Tenor and lots of pictures and dancing.

Vote for Your Favorite Feature Film to Win N1 Million Each at the 2017 HomeVida Awards!

The nominations for the best feature film and documentary that promote Transparency, Accountability and Good Governance (TAGG) have ended and we would like to thank everyone who nominated. This year, we had a total number of 122 movies nominated; 107 Feature films and 15 Documentaries.

After thorough deliberations by the jury in making sure these films best fit the criteria set out, the feature films shortlisted were;
