On Friday 5th December 2014, the 5th edition of the Nigeria Integrity Film Awards (Homevida) took place at the Silverbird Entertainment Centre in Abuja. This year, in addition to the annual awards, Homevida partnered with the School of Media and Communications, Pan Atlantic University to launch the Centenary Project. It was indeed a night to remember as members of the Nigerian Film industry (Nollywood) as well as top government officials and policy advocates were in attendance. It kicked off with a cocktail at 4pm presenting a networking opportunity among the guests present. Some of the guests include the Director General, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ms. Arunma Oteh; Policy and Government Relations Manager in Sub-Saharan Africa, Google, Mrs. Titi Akinsanmi; President, Directors Guild of Nigeria, Mr. Andy Amenechi and the Head of New Media, School of Media and Communications, Pan-Atlantic University, Mr. Patrick Enaholo.

In addition to all the business and networking, it was also a night of fun and laughter as it was hosted by ‘Naija’s own funnyman’ Bovi Ugboma and featured performances by alternative soul singer Bez Idakula.

Mr. Patrick Enaholo gave a presentation on the Centenary Project giving the guests insight into what the project was all about and how important it is to have an archive of our rich creative and cultural history so that individuals, especially children, can have access to a library of historical events. Mrs. Titi Akinsanmi of Google commended Homevida and the School of Media and Communications on their vision and stated that Google is excited to be working with them on these projects.

While giving a speech on the Homevida journey, Ms. Oteh stated the importance of using ‘film’ to instill integrity values among ourselves especially the youth, adding that “there is no faster medium than the film industry”. She urged more organizations to key into the Homevida vision like she has done since its inception so as to ensure a wider reach of the Homevida platform. At the end of her speech, the Homevida short film endowed by SEC -‘If Only’ – was premiered.

The Short Script Competition winners were presented with their awards, Brenda Ogbuka (writer of ‘If Only’) won in two categories, Investors Protection endowed by SEC and the Anti-trafficking in Persons category endowed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
