Random Thursday!!!

So I came across this interesting web series ‘The Ngee Show‘ and this particular episode features popular comedienne Chigurl. Watch it and leave your comments. Do you agree with them? Do you think someone that went out of the country after the age of 10 should not come back with an accent? Watch and share your thoughts …………………..

I thoroughly enjoyed this and it reminded me of all those nigerian people who speak with strange foreign all-mixed-up accents to me when they have no reason to. it hurts!!!

Hahaha I’m like dying laughing here. Funny enough I kinda agree with them on some stuff, esp the official tone vs regular tone. However, I think accents are developed based on the people/things that influence u, for instance I lived in the east/middle belt btw the ages of 9-20, but I don’t have an igbo or waffi accent coz most of the people I associated with didn’t have the accent. I also have cousins that were actually born and raised in the east, but they don’t have the accent either. My 4 year old nephew that lives in lagos speaks with an American accent that he picked up from the kids shows he watches. On the other hand, I know some Nigerians here in the states that have lived here for 30+ years but have undiluted igbo/yoruba accents. So I think it all depends on what influences you, whether it’s the people around u, or things around u (tv, radio). But like they said, whatever accent you have, just make sure u are speaking correctly abeg
