Maya Angelou celebrated American poet and author has died at the age of 86 at her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina today, Wednesday 28th of May 2014. Ms Angelou was not only an author and poet but was also prominent in the civil rights movement. She passed quietly in her home sometime before 8am this morning.

Angelou has received more than 30 honorary degrees from universities around the world. She published 7 autobiographies, 3 books of essays, and several books of poetry, and is credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning more than 50 years.
